Helping grassroots sport and physical activity recover from the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and investing in tackling the challenges of the next decade are the cornerstones of Sport England’s new 10-year strategy.

Launched on Tuesday, Uniting the Movement runs through to 2031 but is most immediately focused on helping the people and organisations delivering grassroots sport and physical activity to cope with the pressure of the pandemic.

As well as announcing a new 10-year vision, Sport England are also making £50 million available to support this network in 2021

Alliance launch survey to measure the impact of COVID-19 on grassroots activity

Find out more

To understand the current landscape of grassroots physical activity, the Sport and Recreation Alliance has teamed up with Sheffield Hallam University on a research project that will enable the Alliance to gain insight into exactly what support the sector needs to get back on its feet.

By gaining an accurate picture of what has happened to the membership, income and operation of community clubs, the Alliance will be able to more accurately support the sector in conversations with government and other partners.

You can view, complete and share the survey here.

Community funding from People’s Health Trust

Sector support

Local groups and organisations with great ideas to make their communities even better places to live are invited to apply for funding to turn their ideas into reality.

Active Communities is a funding programme from the People’s Health Trust for community groups and not-for-profit organisations, with an income of less than £350,000 a year or an average of £350,000 over two years.

It’s for projects seeking investment of between £5,000 and £40,000 for projects lasting up to two years. The funders are looking for small and local projects, genuinely designed and run by local people. By small, they mean just a small group of people on an estate, in a few streets or villages.
