About Calderdale Wheelchair Basketball Club

Based in West Yorkshire, Calderdale Wheelchair Basketball Club plays in the North Division League third tier.

The club was set up by wheelchair users in 2015. The closure of the charity Cardinals Wheelchair Sports Club, which ran for over 25
years and served Calderdale and Kirklees, left a void. This club produced Harry Brown who is now playing and living in Spain and is currently a GB international and Paralympic medallist.

The Cardinals divided their assets equally amongst like minded groups in Kirklees. A group of several Calderdale wheelchair users recognising that there was not a wheelchair basketball team in their area, set up Calderdale Wheelchair Basketball Club to fill that void. They wanted to have a club were people could come together, have fun, get active, socialise and at the same time provided a pathway for those who wished to go as far in the game as possible.

The team started out with friendlies and then as a development league team. We now play in the North League Division 3 of the GB Wheelchair Basketball Association. Our players come from all over our region to train on a Monday evening 7pm till 9pm at Calderdale
College.

We welcome all ages and abilities we can provide you with a club sports chair to train in and play. Get in touch and give it a go.
