Channel 4 has exclusive broadcast rights within the UK to show the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics.
In a global first for a broadcaster at a world-class sporting event the free-view channel will have an entire all-star disabled presenting team for the games.
Making up the presenting team are:
Online viewers can stream the 2022 Winter Paralympics though Channel 4’s Youtube platform.
Highlights shows will be carried on Channel 4’s sister channel More 4 (channel 18 on freeview).
Welcome to February’s newsletter. This edition features new activity cards, UK CMOs’ disabled children’s activity guidelines and a new research project.
Activity Alliance and partners release series of inclusive PE activity cards for teachers and school staff. The cards are jam-packed with fun games and activities, and support teachers to ensure their PE sessions are inclusive and accessible for all school pupils.
Disabled children and young people will be supported to be more physically active following the publication of new guidelines from the UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs). The guidance, which recommends daily levels of physical activity, will support disabled children and young people to improve their physical and mental health throughout their lives.

The inaugural season of the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League begins on Saturday 22 January 2022 – and you can watch it live on the BBC.
The league is the first of its kind worldwide, and the UK’s first women’s professional Para-sport league.
Worcester Wolves take on Loughborough Lightning in the opening match.
Among the Loughborough squad are Tokyo Paralympians Laurie Williams, Jude Hamer, Robyn Love, Lucy Robinson and Siobhan Fitzpatrick.
“This is a significant moment, not just for wheelchair basketball but for British Paralympic sport,” said UK Sport chief executive Sally Munday.
“I’m delighted the BBC is supporting one of our most exciting and dynamic Paralympic sports.”
Cardiff Met Archers and East London Phoenix are the other teams competing for the title.
Each team will play each other three times with the finals held on 14 May.

| History of women’s football to be revealed and celebrated Find out more  Sheffield and Rotherham, as two of the nine UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 host cities, are taking part in a National Lottery funded project to uncover the hidden history of women’s football in a summer of celebration of the game, its players and communities.In partnership with The FA and led by Rotherham Council and Milton Keynes Council, the National Lottery funded programme aims to challenge the common perception of women’s football being ‘new’ and change the nation’s understanding of ‘the English game’. In addition to the National Lottery funding of £500,000, The FA and host cities have contributed nearly £600,000 to the project.The nine UEFA Women’s EURO host cities (Brighton & Hove, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Rotherham, Sheffield, Southampton, Trafford and Wigan & Leigh) will take part in a summer of exhibitions, memory films, oral histories and community activities. |

| Shaping young people’s futures in Sheffield Find out more  As part of its multi-year partnership with health and wellbeing provider Westfield Health, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust has launched a series of programmes this January in Sheffield. Over 2,000 Sheffield-based young people will benefit this year, the largest number of young people the Trust will ever have worked with in a single city.Sixteen students at ten Sheffield secondary schools, who are facing challenging circumstances in their personal or school life, will be chosen to benefit from On Track To Achieve mentoring sessions delivered by Trust athlete mentors. |
| ‘Sport is special – it’s in your face’ Find out more  Sport is often forgotten in discussions of FE. But with Ofsted looking hard at ‘personal development’, the award-winning PE team at New College Pontefract appear to have backed the right horse.At the end of last year, the PE department won the ‘FE team of the year’ at the Pearson teaching awards. When I ask one staff member why they won, I’m told with typical, grinning Yorkshire self-effacement that “our grant writer is really good” – but it’s clear the team are playing themselves down.Sport here is hugely valued, in a way that FE perhaps does not always deliver on. |

Andy Atkinson reports from Calderdale Wheelchair Baskeball Club vs Southport, Sunday 5 December 2020.
Todays game between Calderdale and Southport was a neck and neck and after 3 quarters it was level. It would be down to Fourth quarter to find the winning team. Southport came out strong taking an early 8 point lead with Calderdale doing everything they could to match them.
Calderdale looked like they might just bring it back, but time ran out in the end. It was a great game! Final score: Calderdale 42-46 Southport.
The National Paralympic Heritage trust will be holding a virtual event with Lora Fachie MBE, Paralympic cyclist, for two fun and engaging Zoom sessions on Friday 3rd December.
Lora is visually impaired and grew up in a family where blindness was not a barrier to achieving. She has always enjoyed sport, participating in athletics and then in 2009 in cycling, competing on a tandem with a fully sighted athlete. Lora has competed at three Paralympics winning gold at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
For the evening session, Lora will be joined by her husband, Neil Fachie MBE, Paralympic cyclist. Neil, who has a visual impairment, has competed at four Paralympics winning gold at the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
